IPPIN Japanese Dining

IPPIN Japanese Dining sits above West Village in West End, on Level 2 of The Garden Pavilion. Reached by lift or stairs, the restaurant has an upstairs setting away from the busy streets, with a stylish atmosphere described as suitable for both casual and romantic dining. The venue opened in April 2023 and offers a contemporary interpretation of Japanese cuisine, while drawing on traditional techniques and seasonal ingredients.

The menu covers several ways to dine. Its Traveller IPPIN Experience is a multi-course option built around dishes such as Wagyu beef tataki, sashimi with Japanese sweet prawns, fish tempura, mentaiko scallops, Australian Wagyu sirloin, omakase nigiri and dessert. For a more relaxed introduction, the Natsu Banquet is a seven-course, share-style menu featuring options including sashimi, prawn, salmon aburi roll, Angus sirloin and a chef’s choice dessert. The website also lists a Japanese vegetarian set menu, available by email booking with advance notice.

Seasonal and group-focused offerings add variety. The Wagyu Shabu Shabu Set pairs a shared hot pot with MB5 wagyu, sesame and ponzu sauces, while the cooler-season Shabu Shabu experience is presented as a four-course set. On weekends, Bottomless Lunch combines a banquet with a 1.5- to 2-hour beverage package featuring sparkling wine, wine and beer. À la carte dining is also available, so guests are not limited to the set experiences listed online.

IPPIN’s drinks program is a major part of the experience, with Japanese sake, Japanese whisky, handcrafted cocktails with Japanese influences and a wine list curated by Peter Scudamore-Smith, a Master of Wine. The venue says its wine list received a one-glass award in 2024 and two glasses in 2025.
