Why we built this
Brisbane changes faster than most guides keep up with. A warehouse in Fortitude Valley becomes a wine bar; a Chermside shopping strip quietly grows one of the city's better Korean precincts; West End keeps doing what West End does. Keeping track of that is the whole point of this site.
We built Brisbane Spots because searching for somewhere to eat here usually means wading through the same recycled top-ten lists, most written by people who have never crossed the river. We wanted something closer to how locals actually decide: what's good, what's near me, and is it still good.
We're not trying to list every business in the city. We'd rather write properly about a place worth your evening than pad the site with venues we can't say anything useful about.
Right now we cover 2,224 places across Brisbane, organised into 27 categories and 22 suburbs — from Brisbane CBD, South Brisbane, Fortitude Valley to Toowong. Our biggest sections are restaurants (293), cafes (253), parks (209), gyms (170), where to stay (161).
Our coverage is deepest where Brisbane actually eats and drinks — Fortitude Valley, South Bank and West End between them account for a large share of what we list, with strong coverage out through Chermside, Wynnum, Paddington and Toowong.
We're not a spam directory and we're not trying to list everything. We'd rather list places we can describe from real source material than pad the site with venues we have nothing specific to say about.
What makes this different from a review aggregator
The Spot Score
Every venue gets a Spot Score — our own independent rating that weighs a venue's reputation, popularity, the quality of information available about it, how well it fits its category and how fresh that information is. It's our score, not a paid placement and not a copy of a Google star rating. You can read exactly how it works in our editorial policy.
How listings are produced
Listings are compiled from each venue's own published information and Google Places data, with AI assistance for drafting. Drafts are checked against that source material before publishing. We do not visit every venue, and a listing never implies a visit or an owner confirmation unless it says so explicitly. When a reader reports an error we log it and correct the listing.
Honest sourcing
We only state things we can stand behind. Where details such as opening hours or menus come from a third party, we treat them as a starting point and encourage you to confirm with the venue directly. We're upfront about where our information comes from — see how we create content.
