Why it's worth checking out

The Villa by MAYA brings a rooftop Mexican dining experience to Ann Street in Fortitude Valley, drawing on regional influences from Yucatán, Oaxaca, Cancún, Tulum and Valladolid. Its menu combines those traditions with fresh, seasonal Australian produce, presenting contemporary takes on Mexican street food designed for sharing. As the menu changes with the seasons, the focus is on a rotating selection rather than a fixed list of dishes.

Drinks are a major part of the experience. MAYA’s bar centres on highland tequilas, artisanal mezcals and small-batch sotols, with a wine list that includes Australian wineries and a changing range of international pours. The venue also serves its own MAYA Margaritas, making it a natural choice for a long lunch, an evening drink or a late-night cocktail in the city.

There are several ways to settle in. Guests can take in Brisbane’s skyline from the bar, relax in oversized lounges in the rooftop courtyard, or choose the more intimate semi-circular booths. The space combines white finishes with stone, marble, timber, greenery and desert cactus, creating a distinct rooftop setting without losing its connection to the surrounding Fortitude Valley precinct.

For groups, the LA PLAYA & LA MESA shared set menu brings together selected favourites from the à la carte menu and is available for parties larger than two, subject to seasonal change. The venue’s shared food, drinks focus and range of seating make it suited to group catch-ups and celebratory meals, while the city views and intimate booths also lend themselves to a date. MAYA was created by The Coats Group after a trip to Guadalajara, with the concept shaped by a passion for artisanal tequila, regional Mexican cuisine and Queensland produce.
