Why it's worth checking out

sAme sAme brings a contemporary Southeast Asian dining experience to Ada Lane in Fortitude Valley, with Thai cuisine at its centre. Head chef Arté Assavakavinvong and his team draw on Thailand’s varied regional food culture, using traditional techniques including hot coals and very hot woks. The menu combines familiar favourites with seasonal dishes, so there is a reason to return as the offering changes.

The à la carte selection moves from smaller plates and salads through to mains, curries, sides and desserts. Dishes named on the current menu include Chiang Mai duck larb, whole fried market fish with a four-chilli dressing, lobster pad Thai, khao soi curry with grilled chicken, and panang of grilled lamb neck. There are also plant-based choices such as pad kra pow eggplant with tofu and a yellow curry of grilled pumpkin, cauliflower and carrot. Banquet menus are available for groups, with dishes shared across the table rather than ordered individually.

The restaurant occupies two levels and has several ways to settle in, including a communal table, a window-side bench and seating facing the open kitchen. Its design uses concrete, cream tones and geometric forms, creating a polished but energetic setting. Upstairs, LOS is a separate cocktail bar with rare tequilas and mezcals, weekly DJs and views across Ada Lane, making it suitable for a pre-dinner drink or a later evening stop.

There is plenty of flexibility for occasions beyond a standard dinner. The private dining room seats up to 30, LOS accommodates up to 70 people standing, and exclusive use of the restaurant can cater for up to 90 seated guests. That makes sAme sAme a practical option for intimate celebrations, corporate gatherings, date nights and larger group meals. The drinks programme includes evolving cocktails shaped by local and seasonal produce, along with a curated international wine list designed to complement the food. Solo diners and couples can take a seat near the kitchen, while groups can make use of the banquet and event spaces.
