Why it's worth checking out

Rosmarino is a family-owned Italian restaurant in Fortitude Valley, opened by Lauren and Andrea in 2021 after they stepped away from their previous hospitality work with Hellenika. Their approach is personal: Andrea oversees the wine list, while Lauren manages weddings, events and marketing. The restaurant grew from a period spent on her family’s Beaudesert property, cooking over an open flame and rethinking what came next.

The food centres on handmade pasta and Italian cooking, with a menu described as gluten-free apart from the house-made pastas. The kitchen notes that cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed, so the venue is not suitable for coeliacs. Dishes named on the group menus include paccheri with tomato and stracciatella, saffron risotto, Sardinian culurgiones filled with chestnut purée, and desserts such as biscottomisù and dolce al cioccolato. Larger groups can choose from sharing menus, while the private dining room also offers an individually plated menu.

Wine is a major part of the experience. Rosmarino’s list contains more than 350 hand-selected Italian and international wines, covering different regions and winemaking traditions. It is a natural fit for diners who enjoy matching wine with a meal, but the restaurant also caters to a more relaxed evening with light snacks, pasta and a considered bottle or glass.

There are several ways to dine or host an event. The courtyard seats up to 35 in a sharing format or accommodates up to 70 for cocktails, while the restaurant seats 34 with additional tables available for groups of up to 60. The enclosed private dining room seats 12 to 14 and is offered for corporate events, elopements and post-wedding celebrations. Weddings can also use the courtyard for a ceremony, with lunch following in the private room. For everyday dining, Rosmarino suits couples, small groups and food-and-wine-focused occasions; larger parties should note that sharing menus are required for groups of seven or more.
