New Farm Park

New Farm Park is a heritage-listed riverfront park and one of Brisbane’s long-established public green spaces. First built in 1914, it was designed by Henry Moore and later Harry Oakman, and was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2005. The park covers more than 15 hectares between Brunswick Street, Sydney Street and the river, giving visitors plenty of room to spread out.

Its appeal is in the variety of spaces within the grounds. Broad lawns suit picnics, informal games and celebrations, while the rose garden is a standout for a slower wander. There are riverside views in one direction and a city skyline outlook in the other. The wooden playground winding through the fig trees has been a favourite with generations of children, and the historic bandstand rotunda is a popular setting for wedding photographs. Shady areas make it comfortable for a relaxed afternoon, and dogs can be walked on to the nearby New Farm dog park.

The park works for a wide range of visits: families can make use of the playground and open space, couples can stroll through the gardens or settle in for a picnic, and solo visitors can enjoy the river views and greenery without needing a formal plan. It is also used for celebrations, weddings and community events. Food and drink options are available around the park, with the adjacent Brisbane Powerhouse adding live arts performances, exhibitions and weekend farmers markets to the surrounding experience. The site also hosts events such as Night Feast at Brisbane Powerhouse, which brings food, music and art to the area at scheduled times.

Getting there without a car is straightforward, with the park three CityCat stops from Brisbane’s CBD, a River Hub pontoon and frequent buses servicing New Farm. Car parking is also available.
