Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha is a 56-hectare subtropical garden in the Mt Coot-tha precinct, close to Toowong in Brisbane. Entry is free, and the grounds combine plant collections, wildlife, trails and practical visitor facilities, making it a substantial place to explore rather than a quick garden stop. The main entrance is at 152 Mount Coot-tha Road, with free parking, accessible parking, toilets, drinking fountains and picnic shelters available onsite.

There are several ways to spend a visit. Follow the wayfinding guide through the plant collections and other attractions, try the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail, or settle at a picnic table, on the lawns or in the shaded seating area. The Botanic Gardens Café provides another option, with views towards the lagoon and bamboo grove. Visitors with mobility needs can use the mobility map, which outlines pathway gradients and the locations of accessible toilets, buildings and telephones.

For a more informative outing, free guided walks leave from the Visitor Information Centre at 11am and 1pm daily, except public holidays. These gentle walks run for about an hour and cover the gardens’ plants and features. The centre at the main entry also provides track maps, visitor guidance and information about what is happening in the wider precinct. Nearby attractions include the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, Mt Coot-tha Library, Richard Randall Art Studio and Queensland Herbarium, while school and community groups can enquire about curriculum-linked outdoor lessons and workshops.

The gardens suit families, solo visitors, walkers, school groups and anyone wanting a flexible outdoor visit. Picnic areas make it easy to bring food, while the café is useful if you prefer to buy a meal. Bike access is available via the Toowong and Bicentennial bikeways, although riding within the gardens is limited to the Ring Road and Botanic Way. Domesticated animals are not permitted, apart from guide and assistance dogs, to help protect native wildlife. The gardens are open seven days, with seasonal closing times, and the Visitor Information Centre is open daily except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
