Roma Street Parkland is a substantial green space in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, covering 16 hectares of gardens, lawns and walking areas. It offers an easy way to spend time outdoors without leaving the inner city, with plenty of room to wander, pause or settle in for a picnic.
The parkland’s standout areas include the Spectacle Garden, where vibrant subtropical planting takes centre stage, and a rainforest walk designed for a quieter, more shaded stroll. Visitors may also spot Eastern Water Dragons basking in the sun. Scenic picnic areas, free barbecues and playgrounds make the parkland a practical choice for families and groups, while the garden paths and peaceful spaces also suit a solo visit.
For a closer look at the park’s plant and animal life, free 90-minute guided tours are led by knowledgeable volunteers. Registration is required, and tours include the Spectacle Garden and The Lookout. There is also The Garden Room Cafe for visitors wanting to buy something to eat during their visit. The parkland is open to visitors around the clock, while the Spectacle Garden and Rainforest Walk operate from dawn until dusk.
Roma Street Parkland also hosts changing events and experiences, including Food Truck Feasts on the first Wednesday of each month, Le Festival in July, Night at the Parkland open-air concerts in September, and Country on a Plate, an Indigenous food and tea experience with First Nations chef Chris Jordan. Event and wedding hire is available, too. Weekday parking is listed at $17.50 per day, making the parkland a flexible option for a relaxed outdoor outing, a family day or a scheduled event.
