Why it's worth checking out

New Farm Bistro brings heritage-style, home-style cooking to New Farm in Brisbane, with a focus on fresh seasonal produce and local suppliers. The menu is described as a full bistro offering that includes family favourites, dishes designed for sharing and gourmet pizzas. While the website does not name individual dishes, its approach is clear: familiar, generous food shaped by heritage cooking and family recipes.

The bistro is set within Casa Italia Community Centre on Gray Street, a space with its own community history. Originally established for Italian migrant families, the centre suits the venue’s aim of bringing people together over a relaxed meal. New Farm Bistro presents itself as a place to meet, eat and connect, with a warm, inviting atmosphere for locals from New Farm, Newstead, Teneriffe and across Brisbane.

There is a personal story behind the business. Valerie Ferdinands reached the Grand Final of My Kitchen Rules in 2017 with her daughter Courtney, then moved into hospitality at the age of 65. She opened New Farm Bistro in 2020, initially operating from New Farm Bowls Club, where she worked with Head Chef Dan Sullivan to develop the business during the pandemic. The move to Casa Italia followed Valerie’s desire to create a stronger community-focused home for the bistro, with support from her husband Errol and family.

The venue caters for more than everyday dining. It offers tailored group dining menus for functions and promotes the space for birthdays, hens’ nights, work events and wedding receptions. That makes it a practical option for families, groups and celebrations, while the home-style menu and community setting also suit a casual meal with friends or relatives. New Farm Bistro is not currently offering listed experiences, so its main appeal lies in its food, story and role as a neighbourhood gathering place.
