Mitchell Fine Art

Mitchell Fine Art is a gallery and stockroom in Fortitude Valley presenting Aboriginal and contemporary Australian art. Its exhibition programme brings together a changing selection of artists, with the gallery representing names including Ann Thomson, Bernard Ollis, Margaret Loy Pula, Matthew Cheyne, Jorge Mariño Brito and Sophie Cape. The programme also includes exhibition openings and artist talks, giving visitors opportunities to hear more about the work and the people behind it.

The gallery occupies 350 square metres of exhibition space and showrooms, with an onsite stockroom extending the collection beyond the main displays. Visitors can browse original paintings alongside ceramics, sculptures, Aboriginal bark paintings and artefacts, as well as art books and catalogues. The gallery describes its approach as welcoming and based on the idea that art is for everyone, making it suitable for both experienced collectors and people beginning to explore Australian art.

Mitchell Fine Art also provides practical support for buying and displaying artwork. Staff can advise on selecting pieces for private homes, interior design projects, corporate spaces and private collections, with help available for framing, transport, lighting and installation. A virtual installation service allows visitors to send through a photo of their room and see how a selected work may look on the wall before visiting the gallery. Purchased artworks can be delivered locally, nationally or internationally, with insurance included during transit.

The venue welcomes individual visitors, collectors, teachers, school groups and art students, and runs regular free artist talks. It is located at 86 Arthur Street, between Brunswick Street and James Street, with customer parking onsite and a roughly 15-minute walk from Fortitude Valley Station. The gallery is open six days a week, with private consultations available by appointment. Its sustainability measures include LED lighting and solar panels.
