Queensland Art Gallery

Queensland Art Gallery is the QAG half of QAGOMA, a two-gallery arts destination in South Bank, Brisbane. QAG and the Gallery of Modern Art sit 150 metres apart within the Queensland Cultural Centre, on the banks of the Maiwar River. The galleries are open daily from 10am to 5pm, with free general entry; selected exhibitions and events may require a ticket.

The programme brings together exhibitions, artworks, talks, tours, cinema and activities for children and other visitors. At QAG, “Great and Small: Kindred Creatures in Indigenous Australian Art” is showing from 21 June 2025 to 23 May 2027 with free admission. The site also highlights Archie Moore’s “kith and kin”, presented at GOMA from 27 September 2025 to 18 October 2026. For visitors who want more context, QAGOMA publishes stories and videos exploring its collection, artists and exhibitions.

There are distinctive details to look for throughout the visit. Keith Wikmunea’s “Theewith Yot. A! | Lots of White Cockatoo” features seven white theewith, or cockatoos, positioned on a yuk thanchal, or milkwood tree, in the QAG foyer. The galleries also house a Wurlitzer Style 260 Opus 2040 pipe organ, used to accompany silent-film screenings at GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque. Together, the architecturally acclaimed buildings, river setting and connection between art, film and live programming make this more than a quick exhibition stop.

QAG suits a wide range of visits: a short wander through free displays, a longer combined QAG and GOMA outing, or a planned day built around a tour, cinema session or workshop. The programme includes First Nations art tours, children’s activities, art and yoga, live music with film, and other events, so there are options for families, adults and visitors returning for a particular exhibition. The gallery also emphasises access and inclusion, aiming to help visitors of all abilities form lasting connections with art.
