Why it's worth checking out

Milne Hill Reserve is one of three natural areas that make up the Chermside Hills Reserves, a 129-hectare bushland network within Brisbane’s Mountains to Mangroves Corridor. Together, the reserves connect habitat stretching from the D’Aguilar Ranges towards Boondall Wetlands and Moreton Bay, offering a change of pace from the city through open eucalypt forest, woodland and dry rainforest.

The area is suited to unhurried outdoor time, with bushwalking, birdwatching and opportunities to simply sit among the trees. Across the reserve network, visitors can choose from 11 easy and moderate walking tracks, ranging from 350 metres to 1.7 kilometres. There is also a longer route linking all three reserves, while the wheelchair-accessible Senses Trail provides a more accessible way to experience the bushland. Spider Hill Outlook offers views towards Moreton Bay and the surrounding mountains.

Milne Hill Reserve also has bikeways, making it relevant to riders as well as walkers. Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the reserves, provided owners clean up after them, and an off-leash dog park is located near Milne Hill Reserve. The wider reserves include boardwalks, a viewing deck, toilets, barbecues and a playground, although the supplied information does not assign each facility specifically to Milne Hill Reserve.

The bushland is home to a broad range of native wildlife, including wallabies, gliders, possums, water dragons, blue-tongued lizards and skinks, along with birds such as spangled drongos, crested hawks and dollarbirds. More than 200 native plant species are protected across the reserves, including grass trees, banksias, stringybarks and spotted gums. Families, solo walkers, dog owners and cyclists can all find a suitable way to use the space. Milne Hill Reserve is accessed from Hamilton Road, with parking at the entrance. Visitors are advised to carry water, a track map and a phone, stay on marked trails, and avoid muddy or flooded tracks. Repair works are scheduled to close the Giwadha Track from late April to mid-May 2026, so check alternate routes before visiting.
