Kangaroo Point Riverwalk

Kangaroo Point Riverwalk brings together a network of eight riverside parks just across the Brisbane River from Brisbane City. The route links open lawns, shared paths and scenic lookouts across Kangaroo Point, with views towards the river, city buildings and the Story Bridge. It suits an easy walk or ride, a picnic by the water, or a longer day exploring several parks rather than a single defined attraction.

Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park is the standout for elevated and riverside views. Its upper and lower levels include picnic areas, shelters, barbecues, seating, public toilets, water bubblers, bike racks and a pontoon, while the Cliffs Boardwalk runs from Riverlife Adventure Centre to beneath the Captain Cook Bridge. Visitors can hire a kayak from Riverlife or join a guided abseiling group on the 20-metre cliffs. The park also provides access to the Kangaroo Point Bikeway, which runs between Thornton Street and the Captain Cook Bridge, as well as rock-climbing and bouldering areas.

Other stops add different reasons to pause. Captain Burke Park, beneath the southern end of the Story Bridge, has grassy lawns, picnic shelters, a nautical-themed playground with a Liberty swing, an outdoor gym, barbecues and wheelchair access; the nearby Holman Street ferry terminal provides a Cross River ferry connection. C.T. White Park is a useful stop along the riverwalk for walkers and cyclists, with boardwalks, jetties, a playground and the Kangaroo Point Natural History Trail. James Warner Park offers a quieter break between the cliffs and Captain Burke Park, along with a dog park, while Raymond Park contains two heritage-listed World War II air raid shelters, a playground and a dog park with a small-dog area.

The area works well for families, dog owners, cyclists, walkers, solo visitors and groups planning a picnic or special event. Several sites at the cliffs and Captain Burke Park can be booked for weddings, parties and other gatherings, although the Captain Burke Park sites are currently unavailable while Story Bridge maintenance is under way. The parks can be reached from surrounding streets, walkways and shared paths, and the Kangaroo Point Bikeway connects the riverside precinct with South Bank and the CBD.
