Captain Burke Park

Captain Burke Park sits below the southern end of Brisbane’s Story Bridge, with views across the river and towards the city. Its grassy lawn and picnic shelters make it a practical spot for a relaxed outing, while the riverside setting gives the park a strong sense of place without needing a formal attraction or venue.

Families are well catered for, with a nautical-themed playground that includes a Liberty swing. Visitors can also walk or ride along the river, use the outdoor gym, or settle in for a picnic with access to barbecues, water bubblers and taps. Accessible toilets and wheelchair access are available, and bike racks make it useful for people travelling along the riverside paths.

The park works for a casual family visit, a picnic with friends or a solo walk beneath the bridge. It is open 24 hours a day and has an onsite car park, with metered parking also available on Holman Street and nearby streets. For a different way to arrive or continue exploring, the Cross River ferry stops at the nearby Holman Street ferry terminal. Captain Burke Park also has two bookable park sites under the Story Bridge, although the council site says bookings are currently unavailable until further notice due to Story Bridge maintenance.
