Birrunga Gallery & Dining

Birrunga Gallery & Dining brings together a café, contemporary First Nations art gallery and cultural hub at 19 Cribb Street, Milton. The space presents a rotating showcase of contemporary Indigenous artworks alongside a Native-infused menu, creating a setting where lunch or coffee can be paired with time spent looking through the gallery. The venue describes the atmosphere as warm and welcoming, with room for a quiet visit surrounded by artwork as well as larger gatherings and events.

The gallery is proudly Indigenous-owned and operated and was founded by Wiradyuri artist Birrunga Wiradyuri. Its work extends beyond displaying art: the program includes painting, music, dance and cultural artefacts, as well as exhibitions, tours, workshops and storytelling. That makes it a useful destination for visitors wanting more context around First Nations art and culture, rather than simply a place to eat. The gallery operates with permission from Uncle Eddie Ruska on the Traditional Lands of the Jagera, Yugerra and Turrbal Peoples.

For a deeper visit, the venue offers artist talks led by Birrunga Wiradyuri or Kane Brunjes. These sessions introduce selected artworks and the stories, cultural knowledge and lived experiences connected to them, with time for questions and discussion. The talks are available for individuals, couples, education groups, corporate groups and tour groups, with packages able to include catering and events services. The Importance of Place Workshop, led by Birrunga, explores personal, historical and cultural connections to place through storytelling and guided reflection. It includes an Acknowledgment of Country, a didgeridoo painting meditation, a small canvas, tuition and materials.
