The Neville Bonner Bridge

The Neville Bonner Bridge is a pedestrian link across the Brisbane River, connecting South Bank’s arts and cultural precinct with the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. It also provides through access towards William and George Streets in Brisbane CBD, making it a practical route between several central city destinations as well as a place to take in the riverfront setting.

More than 320 metres long, the bridge is designed in a classic arch and cable-stayed style, with a mast rising 77 metres above sea level. Its scale and distinctive structure make it a notable addition to Brisbane’s collection of bridges, while the crossing itself offers a straightforward way for locals and visitors to move between the river’s two sides. The project was built with more than 1,000 tonnes of structural steel, sourced from fabricators in South-East Queensland.

The bridge is named in honour of the late Indigenous Senator Neville Bonner AO. As part of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development, it contributes to the precinct’s broader focus on connecting the CBD, the river’s edge and surrounding cultural attractions. With up to 10,000 pedestrian crossings a day expected, it is suited to anyone exploring Brisbane on foot, including visitors moving between South Bank and the city, solo walkers, and groups looking for an easy riverside connection. Its prominent design also makes it worth including in a walk through central Brisbane.
