Simpson Falls is a short bushwalk within Mt Coot-tha Reserve in Toowong, Brisbane, where the scenery changes with the weather. The 650-metre Simpson Falls Track takes about 40 minutes and passes rock ledges and small trickles of water in drier months. After heavy rain, the falls can become a flowing waterfall, so repeat visits may feel quite different from one another.
The track connects with other walking routes, including the Eugenia Circuit and Stringybark Track, making it possible to extend the outing beyond the falls. Eugenia Circuit is a moderately challenging 2.8-kilometre route through eucalypt woodland, vine forest and creek crossings, with links to several picnic areas. Across Mt Coot-tha Reserve, visitors can choose from more than 18.5 kilometres of tracks ranging from easy to difficult, as well as bike trails in the wider forest.
This is a good fit for solo walkers, pairs and small groups who want a nature-based outing rather than a formal attraction. Moderate fitness is required for the Simpson Falls Track, and the broader reserve offers options for people looking for a leisurely walk, a run or a longer, more demanding route. Dogs are allowed in the reserve provided they remain on a lead and owners dispose of waste responsibly.
Conditions are worth checking before setting out. Council advises that heavy rainfall and storm overflow may leave washouts, ruts and uneven surfaces on some tracks, increasing their difficulty. The Honeyeater Track is scheduled for maintenance closure from late May to August 2026, weather permitting. A Mt Coot-tha Forest Track Map can help with planning, while onsite signage provides the latest access and closure information.
