New Farm Park Playground is a large, heritage-listed park destination in New Farm, Brisbane, combining imaginative play with open lawns, shady gardens and river access. Set across approximately 37 acres, the park has a spacious, leafy feel despite its inner-city location, with towering fig trees, jacaranda and poinciana providing shade. Families can spread out for a picnic, fly a kite, kick a ball or take a walk towards the Brisbane River, while the rose gardens and historic bandstand add interest beyond the playground itself.

The main playground is built around a multi-level wooden fort and treehouse woven through the park’s banyan fig trees. Children can explore bridges, ladders, balancing beams, fire poles and slides, with a large rope climbing structure nearby for more ambitious climbers. A dragon-themed area adds a strong sense of make-believe, including a central dragon feature and egg-shaped spaces to climb into. There are also educational games, musical instruments, spinners and a separate toddler playground, giving younger children their own space while older kids tackle the larger equipment.

Accessibility is thoughtfully supported with a firm path network around the play area, accessible toilets with baby-change facilities and two harnessed adaptive swings. A tandem toddler-and-parent swing is also available. The playground is unfenced and uses a mix of soft-fall, bark and sand surfaces. Parents and carers can settle into the surrounding shaded areas, picnic shelters or central lawn, with electric barbecues available for longer visits. A small café beside the playground offers takeaway coffee and treats, and nearby restaurants provide further options.

Public transport access includes nearby bus and ferry services, and the park connects with walking and cycling routes. Parking is available around the ring road, including accessible spaces near the playground, although the park’s popularity can make weekend parking harder to secure. The nearby Brisbane Powerhouse hosts cultural events and the Jan Powers Farmers Markets on Saturdays, making it possible to combine a playground visit with a broader day out. The park is listed as open from 8.30am to 11pm.
