Mount Gravatt Lookout brings together elevated city views, bushland and an accessible outdoor setting in Brisbane. It sits within Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve, a 91-hectare natural area with bushwalking trails, picnic facilities, a café, playground and toilet block. On a clear day, the outlook extends towards the Moreton Bay islands, the D’Aguilar Ranges and the Glasshouse Mountains, as well as the city and surrounding suburbs.
The lookout works well as a short scenic stop or as part of a longer visit through the connected Toohey Forest Park and Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve. Visitors can drive to the summit via Shire Road and Mount Gravatt Outlook Drive, or walk from Gertrude Petty Place on the 1.2-kilometre Mount Gravatt Summit Track, which takes about 40 minutes according to Brisbane City Council. The reserve and forest are also linked by walking trails and the Griffith University Intercampus Link.
There is plenty of room to make the visit your own. Pack a meal for the summit picnic area, stop at the café, take the children to the playground or choose from easy, moderate and hard tracks on paved and unpaved surfaces. Toohey Forest Park adds two picnic areas with barbecues, shared trails and opportunities to spot native wildlife. Across the forest and reserve, more than 400 species of native wildlife and plants are recorded, including koalas, echidnas, possums, gliders, birds, frogs and reptiles.
It suits families, walkers, solo visitors and groups wanting a straightforward nature outing close to Brisbane’s CBD. Leashed dogs are allowed in Toohey Forest, although visitors should stay on designated tracks, avoid disturbing wildlife and plants, and dispose of rubbish and dog waste responsibly. Check track conditions before setting out: rainfall and overland flow linked to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred may have left washouts, ruts and uneven surfaces on some trails. The lookout is listed as open daily from 6am to 11pm.
