Why it's worth checking out

The Children’s Art Centre at GOMA gives young visitors a welcoming way into the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art’s broader programme. It combines art-focused activities with opportunities to look, make and explore, making it a practical stop for families visiting South Bank, Brisbane.

The centre offers age-specific sessions including Art Starters for babies aged 4–12 months, Art Play Date for toddlers aged 13–35 months and Art Explorers for children aged 3–5 years. These programmes run for 45 minutes on selected days, with seasonal availability listed for 2026. Families can also drop in at drawing stations throughout the Queensland Art Gallery, where free materials are provided for children to use at their own pace.

There is plenty of support for a comfortable visit. Prams are welcome, lifts and ramps provide access throughout QAG and GOMA, and pram parking is available near the entrances to the Children’s Art Centre spaces. Parents’ rooms are available at both gallery buildings, with one at GOMA on the Park level near the Children’s Art Centre. Breastfeeding and bottle-feeding are welcome throughout the galleries.

The experience suits families with babies, toddlers and preschool-aged children, as well as older children who enjoy drawing and discovering art independently. Activities such as the Roy and Matilda story, which introduces artworks from the Australian Art Collection through two gallery-dwelling mice, offer a gentle way to connect younger visitors with the collection. It is a useful family-focused part of QAGOMA’s two-campus South Bank institution rather than a traditional children’s museum, with the wider galleries providing extra context for a longer visit.

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.6 from 109 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
