Queensland Museum Kurilpa

Queensland Museum Kurilpa is the flagship campus of Queensland Museum, set on the corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets in South Bank, at the heart of Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct. It brings together Queensland’s natural and cultural history through galleries, exhibitions, public programs, research and collections. The museum is also the keeping place for more than 1.2 million items in the State Collection, with thousands of specimens and artefacts available to explore online.

The featured galleries offer several different ways to experience the museum. SparkLab, Sciencentre presents interactive science and technology experiences, while the Discovery Centre invites visitors to engage with hundreds of objects, animals and fossils. Wild State focuses on Queensland’s distinctive biodiversity, and the Anzac Legacy Gallery examines the stories, objects and journeys that show how the First World War changed Queensland. The museum also hosts national and international travelling exhibitions, as well as events and public programs including the annual World Science Festival Brisbane.

Behind the public displays is a substantial collection covering Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Pacific Indigenous cultures, rare books, textiles, ceramics, insects, arachnids, mammals, birds, reptiles and parasites. Queensland Museum has collected and researched Queensland’s natural and cultural heritage since 1862. Its current First Nations work includes a commitment to respectful representation through research, exhibitions and programming, alongside initiatives focused on reconciliation, research, repatriation and community connections. The museum also acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters and sky where it works.

With interactive areas for hands-on learning, object-rich galleries and a changing program of exhibitions, the museum suits families, school-age visitors, groups and curious solo visitors alike. It offers enough variety for a focused gallery visit or a broader day exploring science, biodiversity, history and culture. A Terracotta Warriors exhibition is scheduled to open in June 2027, with a waitlist available through the museum.
