Why it's worth checking out
BrisStyle HQ is a creative community space in Wynnum, Brisbane, run by a not-for-profit incorporated group representing makers and creatives from Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The organisation grew from a 2008 gathering of Brisbane Etsy sellers and now supports members through markets, online promotion, business opportunities, networking and skill sharing.
Located on Level 1 of the refurbished Wynnum Community Centre, the HQ includes a hands-on workshop zone, exhibition space, community hall and large meeting rooms. It is designed for hobbyists, emerging and professional artists, crafters, designers and community crafting guilds or groups. The setting is intended to be welcoming and collaborative, with space for people to meet, learn, create and exchange ideas under one roof.
Creative workshops are available for adults and children, with sessions designed for different ages and skill levels. BrisStyle also delivers larger facilitated workshop programs for events, working with organisers on activities for groups ranging from 25 to more than 300 participants. The HQ can therefore suit a solo visitor looking to learn something new, a family seeking a shared creative activity, or a club and community group needing a place to gather.
The venue is also connected to BrisStyle’s program of handmade markets and events, where visitors can meet makers and discover locally produced work. The organisation’s market calendar includes events such as the BrisStyle Twilight Markets, Ceramic Makers Market and Earring Market, although these take place at various locations rather than necessarily at the HQ. Food vendors are also supported at BrisStyle markets as part of the wider event experience.
BrisStyle HQ is open by appointment. It is close to Wynnum Central Station, about a 200-metre or three-minute walk according to the venue, with parking available behind the building and in nearby streets. The bus stop is directly outside, making the space practical for workshops, creative meet-ups and community activities as well as exhibitions and maker-focused events.
