Superordinary is a multi-arts space in Hamilton’s Northshore precinct, housed in a reclaimed warehouse at 175 MacArthur Avenue. Set beside the river, it brings together art, music, performance, workshops, markets and creative studios rather than fitting neatly into one venue category. The main warehouse covers 1,700 square metres, with a 2,200-square-metre riverside courtyard that can be adapted for large public events and private functions.
Its programme changes regularly. Depending on what is scheduled, visitors might find live music, gallery exhibitions, vintage and secondhand markets, photography workshops, roller derby, fitness competitions, burlesque, drag and performance art, or festival-style events. The venue has also hosted exhibitions featuring senior visual artists from Brisbane’s Metro North and Metro South schools. That variety makes checking the current calendar essential: Superordinary can feel very different from one visit to the next.
The space is also a working home for Brisbane’s creative community. Long-term residents include artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, a terrarium maker, an orchestra and creative organisations, with the warehouse supporting people who make, develop and present their work. The venue’s stated focus is on affordable, ambitious local cultural infrastructure, so visitors are seeing a place that operates as both an event venue and an active studio community.
Superordinary suits people looking for something beyond a conventional gallery or concert room, as well as organisers planning exhibitions, brand activations, weddings, launches, immersive theatre, supper clubs, fashion runways and warehouse parties. Music fans, art audiences, market browsers and creative groups will find the most to explore. The bar operates on event nights, while the café is currently taking a break as the venue looks for a new operator. For families and younger visitors, suitability will depend on the individual event; the listed Creative Generation exhibition, for example, is free and open to all ages.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.3 from 81 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
