Sit Down Comedy Club

Sit Down Comedy Club is a dedicated stand-up venue at The Paddo Tavern in Paddington, Brisbane, presenting a changing programme of local, national and international comedians. The club runs different shows throughout the week, with formats including Comedy Allsorts, Saturday Double Feature performances, touring showcases and charity events. Its programme has also featured established names such as Arj Barker, Cal Wilson, Carl Barron, Dave Hughes, Kitty Flanagan, Ronny Chieng, Wil Anderson and Trevor Noah, alongside visiting performers from Australia and overseas.

The Saturday Double Feature format gives audiences two headline acts, an MC and supporting comedians, making it suited to a full night out rather than a single short set. Shows are held in the licensed club, with drinks available from the bar before and during performances. Seating is allocated according to booking groups and booking order, and some guests may share a table with other audience members. The venue also notes that filming can take place during selected performances, and that some comedy themes or language may not suit everyone.

This is an adults-only venue, with no admittance for under-18s. It can work for a date night, a catch-up with friends, a larger group booking or a solo comedy outing, although groups of more than 20 need to contact the box office directly. The club has supported fundraising for registered schools, sports and recreation clubs, and charities for more than 30 years, including through discounted ticket arrangements and hosted fundraising nights. It also offers gift vouchers that can be used for shows at The Paddo and remain valid for three years.

Food is not currently available inside the comedy club because of construction works at The Paddo. Guests who want to eat at the venue can instead enquire about dining upstairs at The Paddo Restaurant before or after the show, with bookings described as essential. With its long-running Brisbane presence, rotating line-ups and regular touring acts, Sit Down Comedy Club is best approached as a ticketed live comedy experience rather than a restaurant or general bar.
