Alter Community Coffee

Alter Community Coffee is a Chermside cafe built around two ideas: serving good coffee and giving people a place to gather. The venue offers dine-in and takeaway, with indoor and outdoor seating at its Hamilton Road location. Alongside coffee, the menu includes pastries, cookies, toasties, juice, and hot and cold drinks, making it suitable for a quick takeaway, a casual catch-up, or a simple break during the day.

The community focus is central to Alter’s identity. The team runs monthly-ish events at the Chermside cafe, with previous gatherings including food trucks, outdoor cinema nights, family wildlife shows and live music. These activities give the venue a broader role than a standard coffee stop, creating opportunities for neighbours, families and local groups to spend time together. The outdoor seating and event program may particularly appeal to families and people looking for a relaxed community setting rather than a formal dining experience.

Alter also operates a mobile 4WD coffee car for weddings, corporate functions, school events and community gatherings around South East Queensland and beyond. It was built in partnership with Ironman 4x4 and MRT to bring specialty coffee to locations away from a conventional cafe. The business says it also provides school talks and workshops, with a focus on equipping young people to become leaders in their communities.

There is a wider social purpose behind the cafe. Alter was created from a belief that healthy communities help people thrive, and it aims to encourage people to be good neighbours. One per cent of Alter coffee sales supports a World Vision sponsored child in Indonesia and her wider community. For Brisbane locals, that makes the Chermside cafe a place to enjoy familiar cafe offerings while supporting a business that connects its local work with a broader community commitment. It suits solo coffee drinkers, informal meetings, families and groups attending one of the venue’s community events.
